What each package includes
Every package listed above is built around the same core: an electrocardiogram, a treadmill test, and blood and urine testing. The packages differ in what imaging is added to that base, and each step up adds a test that answers a different question about the heart.
Echocardiography adds an ultrasound assessment of heart structure and pumping function. CT calcium scoring adds a measure of calcified plaque in the coronary arteries. CT coronary angiography adds a contrast study showing the artery lumen itself, including plaque that has not yet calcified. Each package also includes two consultations — an initial history and examination, and a review once results are available.
Choosing between them
The right package depends on your age, symptoms, family history and existing risk factors rather than on picking the most extensive option. A more detailed scan is not automatically more useful; imaging that is not indicated can raise questions requiring further testing without changing management.
Equally, a basic package may be insufficient where there is a strong family history of premature heart disease or existing risk factors such as diabetes, high blood pressure or raised cholesterol. If you are unsure which is appropriate, the initial consultation is the point at which that is decided — please contact the clinic to discuss it.
What screening can and cannot tell you
Screening reflects the tests performed at that point in time. A normal result is reassuring but does not guarantee future cardiovascular health, and risk factors can change. An abnormal finding on a single test is a reason for further assessment rather than a diagnosis in itself.
The value of screening comes from acting on what it finds, whether that means treating raised blood pressure or cholesterol, addressing smoking, or arranging further investigation.
Preparing for your screening
Some blood tests require fasting beforehand, and the treadmill component is easier in comfortable clothing and walking shoes. You will be told in advance if any preparation applies to the package you have chosen. Bring a list of your current medications and any previous test results.
Screening is not a substitute for urgent assessment. If you develop severe or persistent chest pain, sudden severe breathlessness, or you faint, seek emergency care rather than waiting for a scheduled appointment. In Singapore, call 995.
